Some Offences Explained

List of Offences Explained below:

Speeding

Driving at an inappropriate speed is the cause of a quarter of all fatal crashes each year in Ireland. It reduces a driver's ability to steer safely around bends or when visibility is poor and extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle safely.

A 50 km/h impact is equivalent to dropping a car from the top of a two-storey building, a 100 km/h impact is equivalent to dropping a car from eleven storeys.

Without a seat belt, 3 out of 4 people will be killed or seriously injured in a 50 km/h head-on crash. Seat belts are proven lifesavers and must be used on every single car journey, on short and long trips.

A driver is responsible for ensuring that passengers under 17 years of age comply with the law.

No-Insurance

Driving without insurance is a serious crime and a reckless act that can have serious consequences for anyone travelling in the uninsured vehicle or for those unfortunate enough to be involved in a collision with an uninsured driver.

Approximately 5-6% or up to 100,000 vehicles on our roads may not be insured. The cost to the insurance industry of meeting claims arising from collisions involving uninsured drivers is now running at €50 million a year. Ultimately it is the compliant drivers that are meeting this massive cost through their insurance premiums.
